Information SA Magic Champs 2023

The College of Magic will be hosting the South African Magic Championships 2023, as part of our annual Junior Magic Champs at the stunning HomeComing Centre on Sat 7 October.

This is in conjunction with the SA Magic Convention 2023, which is hosted by The Cape Magicians Circle, who are also celebrating their 90th Anniversary.

We are looking for the best close up and stage magicians to compete and receive the coveted title of SA Magic Champion. For entry, please see below.

How to enter the contest for the South African Magic Championships 2023

CONTESTS WILL BE HELD IN THE FOLLOWING 2 CATEGORIES:

  • CLOSE-UP MAGIC
  • STAGE MAGIC

Further information

  • A Contest fee of R250 per contestant, per category, will be payable to the College of Magic. This will be confirmed upon acceptance of entry.
  • Contestants are required to be registered delegates of the Convention.
  • Limited performing slots are available due to time constraints – your participation will be confirmed in writing once the application process is completed. Video entries may be requested if necessary.
  • Judges are entitled to make special awards within the categories of Manipulation, General Magic, Stage Illusions, Mental Magic, Comedy Magic, Card Magic, Micro Magic and Parlour Magic as well as any other awards they deem necessary.
  • Contests will take place on Saturday 7 October 2023 at the HomeComing Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. Deadline for entries is 7 August 2023.
  • All contestants have strictly no more than 3 minutes to set their performances.
  • Stage Contestants will each have strictly 10 minutes tech on stage before the contest.
  • Acts should be no longer than 10 minutes in length. Overtime acts will incur penalties and potential disqualification.
  • The Cape Jnr Magic Champs will run concurrently with the SA Champs. Contestants aged 19 and younger on the date of the Champs will have the option to compete simultaneously in both contests. Seniors are only eligible for SA Magic Champs.
  • The College of Magic is hosting this event using FISM standard rules along with the contest specific rules above. The FISM rules are available to view at www.fism.org/contest-rules
