Paul Daniels

Paul, born Newton Edward Daniels on April 6, 1938, was an English magician and television presenter who achieved international fame through his television series “The Paul Daniels Magic Show” on BBC from 1979 to 1994.
He was known for his catchphrase “You’ll like this… not a lot, but you’ll like it!” and for his marriage to his assistant, Debbie McGee.

Daniels was awarded the “Magician of the Year” Award by the Academy of Magical Arts in 1982, becoming the first magician from outside the US to receive it.
He was also a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star.

Daniels’ career began in the 1960s when he started performing magic in clubs and youth clubs.
His breakthrough came in 1970 when he appeared on the talent show Opportunity Knocks.
In 1978, ITV gave him his own show, “Paul Daniels’ Blackpool Bonanza,” and in 1979, he began his long-running series “The Paul Daniels Magic Show” on BBC1.
The show was popular, attracting viewing figures of up to 20 million viewers at its peak.

Daniels was known for his unique blend of magic and comedy, and he often performed complex tricks that were both entertaining and sophisticated.
He was also known for his scepticism about claims made in the fields of paranormal and parapsychology, which he demonstrated in segments of his show.

Paul Daniels passed away on March 17, 2016, at the age of 77, after being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor only five weeks earlier.
